Some of this stuff is still being written so the rules are not set in stone yet (they probably never will be), if something is not fun it's probably going to get ditched. Things that are still under review will be put in bold.
The Quests
Quest setters (QS’s) are invited to challenge us with quests.
- We must complete quests in order to gain experience points (xp, decribed more below), with which we will level up.
The GM will regulate/oversee the quests, their powers will include;
Streamlining criteria of QS’s requests for maximum fun.
Setting the experience reward for quests.
Confirming if a quest has been completed and the rewards unlocked.
The goals and criteria of the quests will be set by the quest setter who gave it to us (with GM modification if necessary).
Quests can include, but are not limited to:
Scavenger hunts - i.e. items, places, music, photography.
“Find a jukebox in a diner with x song and record yourselves dancing to it”
Item retrieval - i.e. collect x number of beermats, send QS a postcard from x number of states.
Locating a place - following clues, riddles, homemade maps, puzzles.
Answering trivia. - Local trivia would be great.
“Who founded this tiny village in the middle of nowhere?”
Couriering - if we meet a QS along the route they may want us to deliver items to others along our route (this can be practical or funny).
Creative challenges - i.e. drawing, writing, learning music, performing. Stuff we can do when it is raining outside would be nice.
Physical challenges - i.e. hikes, stunts, sports.
“Try waterskiing”, “take a ballet lesson”.
Skills - i.e. learning a talent, completing a thing in x amount of time.
Volunteering time.
Some dont’s for quest setters:
Don’t make challenges illegal.
“Steal 5 mail boxes”
Don’t make challenges too obscene.
“Streak at a funeral”
Don’t make them too dangerous.
“Drive the wrong way down a highway”
Quests may be set for both of us, or individually. However they should not require the team to split up. If we decide that we want to each go after a separate goal in order to do something quicker then that’s fine.
Quests should not take the team too far away from the basic route map or the basic time schedule laid out at the start of the adventure.
We will not gain xp or loot for quests that we have attempted and failed but we must still complete the volunteer hours that we would have committed to had we finished the quest.
The Questers are not obligated to attempt every quest.
Zora and Tristan will occasionally set quests for our QS’s, either group challenges open to anyone to participate, or calling out people individually. These can include;
Geocaching - stash loot and give clues for others to follow and retrieve it.
Rendezvous - challenge others to meet us along the route.
Challenges can also apply to QS’s that join us for a leg of the route. We want as many people as possible to meet us and share in the journey. We will let QS’s/GMs know when more party members join, so that they can tailor quests for bigger party sizes, if they want.
If QS’s attempt the quests that we set for them, they must donate volunteer hours also and log their achievements/hours. If other questers join our party then they must commit to helping us complete quests AND doing volunteer hours.
Completed challenges will gain xp for the QS and contribute to their own leveling process.
Experience and Leveling up
Party members include the principal questers and any guest questers.
Any guest questers, if they help to complete a quest, will begin their own leveling progress.
Volunteer hours will be worked out as 1 hour per quest completed, plus half and hour per 100 xp gained.
For example a Moderate quest of 1-4 hours will earn 400 xp and therefore will be 1 base hour plus four half hours, totalling 3 hours of volunteer time.
Leveling up will take place when we get past the target xp goal for each level.
Volunteering
Volunteer hours can be served as a part of challenges but will always be served for completed quests. QS’s can assign us hours at specific charities/organizations as all of or as part of a quest.
If a QS does not ask us to donate hours as part of the quest itself, they can still specify where they want us to complete the hours we donate as a result of our xp gain.
Alternatively they can let us choose where to donate hours, or give a general indication of how they want us to donate. E.g: “donate hours at an animal shelter” "clean up trash" etc.
All volunteer hours owed and completed will be recorded and displayed as a running total, both for individual party members and the party as a whole.
Party hours will be the cumulative total of all man hours donated by all party members (including guest questers).
Individual party members can pay down the hours owed of another party member in return for xp.
Hours performed as part of a quest do not bring down total of hours owed. They do increase hours owed, but at half the usual rate.
If QS’s take up a quest that we have set for them and complete the required volunteer hours, then their hours donated get added to our party total.
We have to record something from every place that we volunteer, and the xp is not unlocked until we have posted that on the website and the GM confirms completion.
The loot acquired from successfully completing quests can be a variety of things; armor (clothing), weapons (utensils/tools, not real weapons), provisions (food and drinks), resources (fuel cards, accommodations credit), caparison (decorations for the camper). These do not have to be high value items or even practically helpful, if someone wants us to win the Feather Boa of Enthusiastic Thrusting and wear it in future challenges then so be it!
It is not necessary to provide loot as a reward for challenges set. Although loot will be appreciated, we appreciate participation even more!
Rewards may either be sent in advance by the QS and placed in our chest of accomplishment (wrapped to keep the loot a mystery), or they can be retrieved from rendezvous locations along the way.
The QS's should let the GM know what the loot is.
